We are not descended from monkeys or apes, we have common ancestors with both. One of the most robust theories in science is the modern synthesis of Darwin's Theory of Natural Selection which explains the observed facts of evolution.

Primates evolved from other mammalian ancestors which in turn evolved from reptiles which evolved from amphibians which evolved from fish which evolved from invertebrates which evolved from multi-celled organisms which evolved from single celled organisms.

Evolution takes us from the appearance of life on the planet through all the changes over time to the millions of species we see in the world today. Even so, more than 99.9% of all the species that have lived on the planet are extinct.

The origin of life is not evolution. The most likely cause is abiogenesis - increasing chemical complexity leading to RNA and then DNA. There are chemicals around today which have some of the attributes of life but are not considered to be alive. These are the prions and viruses. Panspermia, the idea that the planet was seeded with cells from elsewhere, just moves the origin somewhere else.

We're descended from one of the hominid branches of the primate group; there were a number of other hominid branches that have died out; Neanderthal and the recently-disovered "Hobbits" would be a couple of examples. Monkeys and apes are other primate branches that are not hominids. The hominids arose from primates called "proto-hominids" that have characteristics of both great apes and hominids. All primates seem ultimately to have descended from small shrew-like mammals that lived at the same time as the dinosaurs.

We did not come from monkeys or apes, and no scientist has ever made such a claim. We gradually developed from primitive primates of some kind, and so did monkeys and apes.
