Not anymore. At one time there were concerns about a woman's virginity being in jeopardy if she rode straddle. Now days its hard to find the type of sidesaddle used back in the days. And side saddle on a regular saddle doesn't give you much control.Best to straddle the horse.

In the days of noblemen and kings and medieval knights, whenever a lady rode (a rare occurence) they would ride sidesaddle, probably at first due to the fact that they wore skirts.

In today's world, women wearing skirts to ride are a much rarer occurence. To day that it is 'ladylike' to ride sidesaddle is like saying it's 'manly' to hunt dragons.

But on a practical note, if you're wearing a skirt, it is somewhat necessary to ride sidesaddle.

Not that there's anything wrong with sidesaddle! It's perfectly fine, if that's how you prefer to ride.

It's definitely more archaic, and more lady-like back in the day! Now though, it's just kind of uncomfortable because we don't wear the big dresses that required women to ride like that in the first place.
