That's the same reason I don't like Popeye or the Flintstones cartoons. They portrayed the same things. I think it's horrendous.

I thought no one was supposed to spank anyone anymore, especially children. It might give them the mistaken impression that they did something wrong and that there might be consequences.
As to those scenes in movies, it fit with the childish, passive-aggressive attitude of the women that it was used on. Often they had been acting spoiled and peevish through most of the movie and seemed to be looking for someone that would spank them.
I have seen women like that in real life; an adult woman starts acting like a selfish child (and seeing how far she can get away with it) and actually LOOKS AROUND for someone to stop her. Often she ends up being very happy with him when she finds him. Whether it is healthy relationship or not, I do not know, but she is not satisfied until she finds that special someone who will set limits with her.
I am not saying that that is what every woman wants, but I am saying that if that is the dynamic that works for her, then stopping it would make her unhappy.
Not everyone enjoys the same thing or being treated the same way. Unless someone is actually getting abused, sometimes maybe people should mind there own business.

The movies are made from a different mind-set than today. Today, the same scene would be degrading. Then, it was considered cute. Society changes and (hopefully) improves.
I can only think the people answering the question by mentioning consensual spanking in an intimate way haven't seen the films being referred to. The films in question (and others, and tv shows of the time) show a man spanking a woman when she is "bad". He doesn't do this because she LIKES it or because it is SEXY. He does it to humiliate her and control her. But...the films show it as cutesy...as if: "my wife doesn't act properly so I must put her in her place."
Sure, spanking when it comes to physical intimacy is sexy for some people (me included) but it has NOTHING TO DO WITH SPANKING IN MOVIES FROM THE 50'S AND 60'S.

If you think these OLD movies (I was a teenager when Blue Hawaii came out) are degrading, why don't you mention some of the more modern movies of the past couple of years and how degrading women's actions towards MEN has become.
Don't you think that male bashing may have a negative effect on your boys being reared now into this violent feminist society?

spanking is degrading to both sexes, if a person is being childish then they should be treated that way.and spanking is what is done to a child who is doing wrong. in the movies u ar putting up as examples, they were a last effort to get someone to understand that they were being childish.

Many women will tell you they find those scenes fun, sexy and romantic. Besides, there are countless movies - both old ones and present-day - in which women get brutalised, raped or murdered. And you're worried about scenes that show them getting a few swats on the bottom?

I think it's sexy! And these movies were made more than a FEW years ago. You might not have even been born when they first came out.
