We would live in a state of anarchy. Studies have consistently concluded that the harsher the punishment, the more crime break out. Pretty soon, all crimes would evolve into felonies, and any one accused of one would die. This suggestion is a argument the nazi’s used, just eliminate all those you *think* are wrong.
Another problem with this suggestion is that you leave no room for mistakes. We all hear the horror stories of repeat offenders (which contrary to popular belief, is not child molesters/sex offenders, but burglars), but for everyone of them, there is also others who learn to appreciate what they have, and want to teach their children to learn from their parent’s mistakes (this is after all, a major form of a learning mechanism).
Plus, there are also a lot of stupid felonies (adultery, public urination, underage drinking). Gosh, ‘cause you waited until you were 21 to drink, right? (note the sarcasm)
If you were wrongly accused of a crime and had to die for it, is that justice. Until our justice system has a infallible streak, and we are all saints that make no mistakes, this idea would never/ nor should it, pass.

To begin with, it has been proven that capital punishment is not an effective deterrent....so what would be the purpose of that law?

The other consideration is the reaction of the rest of the world. While many Americans stand firm in their beliefs that they could care less what the rest of the world thinks of them and their politics, that attitude is very short sighted. The majority of the planet are against the death penalty...and are very critical of the US for continuing the practice. I am not suggesting that America cow tow to the wishes of the other countries....but it wouldn't be a bad idea if they listened to the arguments presented. We don't all know everything...and if we stopped yapping from our soap box to listen to someone else, we might learn something valuable. Just a thought...

The court system and the penal system would be log-jammed so bad that the whole justice system would collapse under its own weight...

Capital punishment can only be issued in the surest of cases and even then there is a lengthly appeals process to rightfully ensure that innocent people do not get executed.

Due to case loads death rows would have 20 year and over cycle times, inmates would start dying of old-age before their appeals process was over, so much of the population would be drawn into law-enforcement jobs that production and service sectors would suffer, taxes to support such a system would eventually completely choke out the economy, and finally complete collapse.

Would tend to agree, there would be revolution. Maybe all the idiots that believe that is a good idea should have it done to them.

You know i find it remarkable that those that say "criminals don't have rights" or "kill them all" that when they find themselves on the wrong end of the law, clammor and scream about "their civil rights" when they have been attempting to thwart the 'civil rights' of everybody else. Case in point look at Rush Limbaugh, he was always saying that the liberals and the ACLU were coddling criminals. But I noticed that when he got in trouble with the law over drugs, the first thing that he did was stand on those civil rights that the "Leftist Liberals and the ACLU" fight to protect. Civil rights are needed and are there to protect ALL People!!!

Crooks would have nothing to lose, and so would fight to the death instead of letting themselves be captured and freed by the legal system. It would be bloody and the streets would look like the streets of Beirut.

This is probably the worst idea I have heard in a loooooong time.

there would be a lot fewer felonies committed, but the ones that were still being committed would be a lot worse, if you know that if you get caught you were going to die, then anyone who commits crime will fight to the death! but I think this is the way we need to go, the billions we put into prisons could then be used elsewhere!!
