We own a cabin in TN and live in Indiana. I have relatives in FL. I don't like FL that much. Too many people and hurricanes are not so nice either. TN is beautiful and much warmer than IN. There is no state income tax in TN... there is in IN. We plan to move to TN as soon as we retire. So that would be my choice for your question. Here's a picture of our rental cabin...

If you'd like to go to TN, you could rent it and see what it's like there.

It would be a toss up between Indiana and Tennessee.
If peak oil comes and go and you wish to survive, those
two states still have a lot of farm land available.
In Florida, there are always chances of huricanes and other
disasters. Also if the oceans raise as some doomsayers believe, then Florida will be underwater.
If I had a choice, I'd go for Tennessee as the climate is a tad warmer than Indiana and the mountains are truly beautiful.

Well, as an IN native, I vote for IN... here's why.
-IN is hot enough and it just gets hotter south of there! (visit TN on vacations- it's beautiful- but then come back home to IN)
-the warmer the climate, the more bugs you have- FL has world-class size cockroaches, for one thing.
-IN has great urban areas within easy reach of great rural areas.
-cost of living (interesting comparisons- I chose an 80K annual income, at random, and compared Indianapolis, IN; Memphis, TN; Tampa, FL. There were pluses and minuses for all 3...

Bottom line, I guess you'll have to choose! If you have cities in mind, you can do some cost of living comparisons, as well as job searches (if that's an issue). A major consideration for some people is distance from family.

If you're asking my heart's choice, well that remains IN!
