Why is it that a lot of young people (geez I sound like my parents or something!) type like this?

Is it considered cool or something? I just find it extremely annoying and hard to read.

Schools are becoming VERY test oriented. Therefore , more and more class time is being devoted to 'test' curriculum. Unfortunately this results in subjects like spelling being set aside in the never ending quest for higher scores.
No on teaches them to spell anymore.

We can thank the internet and cell phones for that. All the instant messaging, text messaging, chat rooms. I think the short versions are just easier and faster, but it makes a smart person in real life look like a dumbass on screen.

Yeah it's cool, but it's not preparing them for life in the real world. The other day, in my office I received a resume/cover letter from one of these folks. The end of every paragraph ended w/ LOL! Needless to say, I didn't laugh out loud.

Some people are submitting their questions/answer by text message from their mobile and they are using text message short hand.
Others just think its cool because they are teengers.
The rest of them should just stop.

If by "cool" you mean "not so hot", then you're correct. It's OK for communication between like-minded people, but not on a forum like Yahoo Answers.

add the fact that they do not know what spell check is. I guess it is cool to be dumb. kinda reminds me of the movie Idiocricy, where in the future the citizens have been dumbed down..kind of funny, but not the best written movie out there.
