I just read the list of what I need for a baby and panicked! It's a wonder mine ever survived to be teenagers and adults without all that stuff. Short hand what you NEED: you, diapers, bottles and formula if you don't nurse, onsies, blankets and a lot of patience which I notice no one seemed to tell you about. Everything else you can improvise on. The other stuff is nice but the best thing you can do is love your baby and spend as much time with him as possible. They grow up so fast. Best of luck. And don't forget you need a grandma...if not your mom, find a surrogate, you and the baby need one...trust me on this one! :)

Stroller
Crib
Carseat (maybe get one that can snap into a stroller)
vibrating bouncy seat
swing
high chair (one that reclines for babies at a younger age)
changing pad/table
diapers
wipes
bottles
receiving blankets
swaddling blanket
boppy
activity center play mat
exersaucer
onesies
hand mitts (so the baby doesn't scratch his/her face)
sleepers
wedge (to position the baby while he/she sleeps)
baby monitor- I recommend the Angel Care which can alert you if your baby stops breathing
digital camera
camcorder
buy any clothing bigger than newborn (have a few newborn outfits) because babies tend to be bigger than the newborn clothes within days or weeks.

Diaper bag, bottles, burping clothes, onsies, onsies, onsies.
Car seat, very important, many places have a check your car seat center where they make sure it is set up right.
Pasifiers, bottle brush, thermometer, nail clipers, cotton balls, baby brush, receiving blankets, diapers, diapers, diapers.
Teething rings, some that you put in the fridge. Some baby's teeth move early, and can cause discomfort that cold sooths. So the teeth may not be coming out before they cause discomfort. I gave mine a cold ring to chew on when I saw her putting lots of stuff in her mouth and then throwing them, she was pretty fussy and it helped. She didn't get a tooth for a month after that.
Baby soap, lavander baby soap helps soothe and calm. Baby shampoo.
Check with wic or your dr. about when and if vitamin d supplements are good. They can also help with feeding options.
Breast or formula, if breast you need a pump, even if you rent one and freeze a small supply. You never know what is going to happen. If formula, get online and sign up for free new baby magazines and stuff, they send coupons and samples of different formulas. Just remember to stay consistent after you extablish a good food source. My neice had aweful constipation, and they tried a few different formulas, aunt unable to nurse, before one that helped. Every baby is different.
Stroller, yes, and a basinet or other sleeping arangement, make certain of safety. A swing helps, everyone I know used one. I also used a bouncie seat.
That fish in water vibrating and musical toy is awesome.
I got one of those musical moving toys that had balls and other stackable blocks, it was one of my smartest purchases even on a tight budget. This is of course for 4 months and up.
Before that babies like black and white pictures that move, and anything safe to put in the mouth. Key rings are classic. I gave my daughter a spoon to play with before she was eating with it.
Baby utensils, rubbing alcohol, lotion, baby wipes, I needed special rash cream, baby powder is not necessary. Some say that it is bad for the respiratory, ask a dr.
Alot, yes, and I am sure I am missing something. A monitor for nap time, I did gardening on the porch while she napped, and knew right when she woke.
I got lots second hand, before you know it you will be getting rid of much, just to replace it with the next stage. Be careful though. I always got user manuals for any used furnature, then checked its stability and construction. Car seats are ify too, but I think a local auto dealer or a police station can check those for you. Clothes are great used, besides the amount of baby clothes I went through I did lots of laundry, lol. I had to use special soap, Dreft, for skin irritation. Use a mesh bag for socks, they are so tiny.
For used items of any sort with any child always check the safety recall list of that company!!!
Hope this helps.
Depending on your location, there are tons of new parent resources. The employment office should be able to tell you where to look for support groups, so should the hospital. Womens Infants and Children is good for lots of information, especially on nutrition. They also offer assistance of some sort, I don't know about all that. Our office was very supportive of me, I nursed, helped me rent a pump. But they also supported my aunt, who formula fed.
