I recently answered a question regarding a chap who'd found someone toturing a cat. He saved the cat and then dealt out a little locally administered justice.

I can't condone his vigilantism and I thought I'd put my side of the argument over very well - and I've received a massive 13 (and counting) thumbs down.

Now, I'm not upset at this, and I'm not having a whine - I've just never seen so many of the things (not even for some really sick answers).

Hi

sorry but ive just given u a thumbs down too, there are some people who will only learn one way, and althoguh your argument of two wrongs don't make a right is correct, i also have to give a thumbs up to that other guy as he saved a living animal from immediate torture, and his justice meant that this may never happen twice. I can't say that talking or a police warning would have acheived the desired effect.

When people do things like this to an animal, child or old lady then society finds it unacceptable and what you are saying is totally correct and we can't just go around beating people up. However on the other hand there are guys like that living in my area and he would have received no punishment whatsoever for doing that to the poor cat and he would have gone on and done it to another animal or worse a child so sometimes just sometimes with thugs like that the only thing they understand is a good beating.

Wow. I have to agree that your unpopularity is undeserved. The thing is, people were all up in arms over the story and were in no mood for the voice of reason. They were out for blood.

But chances are in real life more of them would have been on your side than not - or at least after they'd had time to reflect.

The only time I've seen that large a number of votes is for questions that have received tons of answers; actually, 46 is fairly high so never mind.

i have added another thumbs down to your answer. there is absolutely a place for vigilantism. if more people would stand up for what's right, as opposed to either calling the police or expecting "someone else" to deal with it, the world would be a better place. thugs like that guy hurting the cat get away with their stuff because no one stops them. i'll bet the guy will think twice before he hurts another living thing. and i'll bet getting his teeth kicked in will have taught him his lesson much more efficiently than could some fine imposed by law enforcement. shame on you for chastising him. sometimes two wrongs do figure up to a big old right.

Unwise to express an opinion if it against retributive justice for cat torturers!
Actually I have to say that I think you are wrong - but I wouldn't have given you a thumbs down for it! But then many people do get a bit angry about this sort of thing.

We are a nation of animal lovers so to criticise someone for metering out a little justice is the reason you got so many thumbs down.

You just got a thumbs down (I don't give many) for your answer. Such scumbags should be buried alive. A kick in the teeth is a lesson one hopes he will learn from. last week we heard of a postie drop-kicking a cat. Too much torture and not enough justice.
