Just liek how when you are a baby, you chewed on toy rings and ruber, so you can get your teeth to grow in. The same has to go with animals as well. Lions chew and claw on trees for sharper and rougher teeth and claws for hunting antelopes etc. A dog (liek my dog) chews on toy rubber disks so he can chew the bones we give him. (hes a huge glutton!) He's a very old dog so we have to give him as much help to him as soon as possible. In conclusin, this is why animals chew on things.

Animals that have teeth chew their food to start to break it down, so they can absorb the nutrients into their bodies. When the food moves into the stomach or intestines, chemical enzymes work to break it down even more (digestion). Chewing also increases the surface area for the enzymes to work on.

Most animals don't have hands and find out what something is by biting it.

if it's your pet, your not feeding them; start feed them or i'll call the animal cops. if it's just wild animals, they're just hungry. if any animal wild or tamed: they dont have hands what do you expect them to carry something? but what i really think is the most possible answer is because they're made that way.
