My good friend is pregnant and she is a chemistry major.
She has to take organic chemistry with lab. Is it okay for her to work in the lab or should she wait until the baby is born and then take the chemistry class? Tell me your experience if you've been there. Will there be a problem or even hazard to the unborn child?
Thanks.

She should discuss this specifically with her OBGYN. My husband has a biochemistry degree and Chemistry degree...he had to work with some nasty stuff in lab that I know I personally wouldn't want to be around while pregnant.

However, if she is an undergrad, she probably won't be working with extremely harmful things...but I personally would wait until after I have the baby to take that lab.

I'd talk to both your oby/gn and the people in charge of the chemistry dept at your university. Even if your doc says it's ok, the school may not want you to (or allow you to) because of both any danger and fear of lawsuits.

You could find out exactly what chemicals will be used for this particular class and take that list to your doc.

i'm pretty sure it has something to do with the chemicals they use. some are safe and some aren't. i would talk to someone who knows about the chemicals enough to know. sometimes in labs i see signs warning that if you're pregnant you shouldn't be using most things in the room.

no because of the chemical hazzard. actually most jobs wont allow pregnant woman to work after 3 months of being pregnant.
