An almost-forgotten gem, one of the great classics of film noir (complete with nightclub song and dance by a sexy chanteuse), is Du rififi chez les hommes (1955), aka "Rififi" - UK, USA. It is in French - and a bit of Italian - with English subtitles. Don't miss it. It is about a jewel heist. The 32-minute heist scene is legendary for two reasons: no music and no dialogue. Just a glance, a wave of a finger, a nod says so much! And note that it is 1955, so absolutely nothing high-tech, yet plenty of challenges to overcome. It is ingenious what these four do with ordinary household items. It's an awesome display of disciplined team play.
It is also the story of Tony le Stephanois, an old-school small timer who lives the concept of honor among thieves, who very much lives by a code of conduct full of honor, loyalty, honesty, commitment and trust. Anyone who sells him out has a price to pay.
The director, Jules Dassin, blacklisted in Hollywood during the House Unamerican Activities Committee hearings led by Sen. Joe McCarthy, had to go to France to make the film. He plays a significant role in the movie as one of the thieves.
My gut says you haven't seen it yet, and that you'll like it. You can get it out of a library system or a place that rents foreign films. It's in the top 250 on imdb.com.
There's a remake due out this year.
PLease vote: Did this help?

The Updated OceansEleven was pretty good until they started making ridiculous sequels. Also watch Either Snatch, or Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels by Guy Ritchie. those are all pretty good heisty movies.
