Actually,union presidents do not have the power and authority they once did,although they certainly draw preposterous salaries still.In the Reagen presidencecy unions started a downhill slide when the U.S. president(Reagen) fired all of the air traffic controllers when they went on strike.This was the beginning of an end to an era of union authority in helping workers with their rights.Unions today charge union members but have little power to implement change in the workplace and try even less to help individual workers in crisis.That could change with the change from Republican president to Democrat president in the 2008 elections but only if everybody votes in a Democrat.
