I think a sushi bar would be a fun place for a first date if you enjoy trying new and exotic things. Sushi is one of those meals that you can order small amounts of easily.
You could also go to someplace that has a good salad bar - where you can pick and choose what you want and control your own portion size.
Or, go where you usually like to go and order off the kids menu. Be yourself. That's the best thing to do on a date.
Have fun! Personally, I think portion sizes are way out of line from the portions we should be eating anyway.

Here's a very chic & cool restaurant - Two Urban Licks.
May not be easy to spot from the street (building used to be a warehouse in an industrial area). Definitely worth a try. You can order from the appetizer menu - a lot of varieties. If weather is nice you can sit outside in the back patio looking over the city skyline.

Instead of ordering from the kid's menu, you can order an a small side salad with an appetizer as a meal or ask for an appetizer sized portion of an entree.
There's also nothing wrong w/ asking for a doggie bag or splitting an entree.

I would pick something and then ask if you can make the reservation because you have certain dietary restrictions.
Alot of restaurants will work with you, especially small ones.
