The giant squid lives in mesopelagic and abyssopelagic waters. A mile down.

Around here, it's in cool water but still on the continental shelf. But -- there are many many different kinds of squid, and you will find them in just about all ocean habitats as free-swimming nekton.

the basic squid lives in saltwater environment. eats food ranging from zooplankton to much larger fish. mates occasionally and dies much as all creatures do. and they swim alot too.
