Carlos Lee? Alfonso Soriano? Gil Meche? Which team do you think screwed themselves?

Keep in mind the lengths of the contracts. Some of these guys are going to be OLD when their deals are up.

Okay, I'm probably going to select the Gary Matthews Jr. answer as best.

There is really no way that contract could be defended, and now drugs are complicating things, too.

So somebody needs to convince me there was a signing worse than that.

Gil Meche wasn't that bad. He is being over paid, but so are a hundred other guys in the league. Dayton Moore is a great GM, and he obviously saw something in him. I say give Meche the benefit of the doubt until the season is over with and we see how he played. The Royals have got to start somewhere. Until they start winning games no big name free agent pitcher, or position player for that matter, is going to want to come to KC and play. So it may take a few years of overpaying some middle of the road guys to get some wins under the belt before we can get the guys that will help the Royals be contenders again. Either way, Meche is an improvement over most of KC's starters from last year.

I think the worst signing was Dice-K. 103 million for a guy that never even won 20 games in Japan and they expect him to come over here and be a top five pitcher. I don't see that happening and I definately don't think he was worth that kind of money.

First of all, as a Royals fan, Meche wasn't that bad of a deal. A lot of teams spend that kind of money on a 3rd starter. We keep getting beef, because we are the Royals. 3 other teams were offering him $10 million per year. We got him for $11 million. BIG DEAL... $1 million is nothing.

Worst signing is Jeff Weaver. He is worse than Meche and makes the same amount of money as a mid-bottom starter. See who has better stats at the end of the season. I'll bet Meche any day.

definetly gil meche. Thats a setup for disaster. The guy couldn't put up good numbers in a decent rotation and now he's been signed as a number 1 or number 2 starter? Deals like this are why the Royals will never be able to compete.

Deffinitly gonna have to go with Javier Vazquez and the White Sox. I cant not understand why they gave a 3 year 24 million contract when there is a lot better people that will be going to free agency after the seasons up. They should of saved the money. Javier Vazquez can not pitch good into the 5th inning to save his life. He always falls apart during the 5th inning, always.

Chicago Cubs with Alfonso Soriano

As A White Sox fan let me answer -
Javier Vasquez. They signed this chump for 3 years, 34 million. And this is after being the worst pitcher know to man after the 5th inning. He would fall apart EVERY game! And they reward him with this contract? And this is after the top in the organization made fun of the contracts the Cubs spent money on in the offseason. But he spend more on Vasquez than the Cubs spent on Lily or Marquis (both overpaid for also).

JD Drew 70 million guranteed from the Red Sox hasta be one of the most ASSANINE contracts ever conceived. The guy wont play 162 games.. i dont think he'll play 140 games. He's like a Hitting Kerri Wood or Mark Prior.

San Fransisco Giants and Barry Zito. Zito is no where near worth $120 mil. Horrible contract, Im just glad my Rangers didnt make that deal, they have had a history of bad contracts (A-Rod, Chan Ho Park)

Honestly, I think that the Boston Red Sox screwed themselves majorly when they signed Daisuke Matsuzaka. I mean, they really took a gamble with this one because they have only seen this guy play in the Japanese leagues and he has never even pitched in the American Major Leagues, it was just an excuse for them to throw there money around and to grab headlines. But I also think that Barry Zito because he was acquired for an extreme amount of money(147 mil) and he hasn't pitched over 92 since last year.
