I am usuallly Super Mom when it comes to pregnancy questions and infant/toddler/adolescent questions, I have read like every book out there. My 6 month old hardly slept last night, and she's a good sleeper, usually sleeps 10 hrs once those lights go out, this morning she had diareah and I just took her temp and it was 102. She is drinking and eating regularly, but her pedi said not to worry. Any suggestions on what to do next ????

MY pedi told us that 102 is a high temp for a 6 month old...and that means take them to either the pedi...or the hospital! You never know when the temp can SPIKE! You shouldnt give tyenol either because that will mask the symptoms...like if the temp were to spike then it never got a chance because of the tyenol...when it spikes that means something serious!

Some people might try and say maybe it teething..but even the "associated" fever with teething is LOW...in the 99's never 102! 102 is either bacterial or viral! You need to find out which one by going to the dr. Ever had an RSV test? they will sample boogies and check for it.. my son was diagnosed @ 1 month..it's basically just a cold for adults...but can be more serious to babies.

You should be able to give her Tylenol unless the Dr. has said not to. Just keep watching the fever, and keep her hydrated. Any fever higher than what she has warrants another call to the pediatrician.
My heart goes out to you. I'm a nurse, and I've read lots of books too, but when it's your own child none of that matters, you worry anyway! Good luck and hang in there.

A temperature that is high has to be caused by SOMETHING, but whether or not medicine is the answer is debatable. I would try to let it run it's course as long as she is still eating regularly. If she isn't improving in 2 or 3 days a visit to the doctor is definitely warranted.

Keep watching her. If the fever continues, bring her in. It sounds like it could be a multitude of things, from a stomach virus, to an ear infection.

My advice is to just watch her well....since Mom knows best, you will definately be able to tell if something is really wrong. Hope she feels better soon. Nothing worse than a sick little baby.
