Guinea pigs rarely violently struggle when they are being picked up but often make a "squeal of protest," which sounds pig-like to many people. Nevertheless, great care should be taken not to injure them when picking them up. The guinea pig should be approached with 2 hands. One is placed under the guinea pig's chest and abdomen, and the other supports its hindquarters. Adults and those that are pregnant should receive gentle, but firm, and total support.
One of the most desirable features of guinea pigs as pets is that they rarely bite when being handled or restrained. One reference indicates that only 1 in 400 will bite under these circumstances.

They indeed can bite you but they will never bite you if you are gentle and care for them. When they are hurt, they will let out a high pitched squeal and may try to bite you. But guinea pigs are very nice animals and I've had them since I was 7. That's 6 years and I've only been bitten about 3 times.

only about one in four hundred guinea pigs will bite according to the statistics that i read. place one hand behind the front legs under the chest and one hand supporting their back legs and bottom. you can usually just sit them in your lap once they are out of the cage. never use a wheel or a ball with them since their spines aren't built to handle the position that they have to be in to use them.
