My mother always said that we had middle names so that she had something to call us when we were bad. :) When she said your full name, you KNEW you were in trouble.

Middle names actually are a German thing that the immigrants brought to the U.S. It use to be, the German's named their children two names-one first name and one after a Saint or mother's maiden name. Throughout the years, Americans have changed it to just a middle name that we pick out for the fun of it. I hope this helps.

Some ppl actually dont have middle names. As for my daughter, her middle name is half of my middle name, and half of her father's middle name. My middle name is Jordan, and his is Lee. So I named her Laney Joleigh. So her first name was a name all her own, her middle name was a part of both her father and myself, and her last name is the family name. Some ppl said that is too intricate, but as tight knit a family as we are, we thought it was perfect. And since then, my other relatives who have had babies have used the same process. Its kind of a tradition now :)
