Layla, Leila, (common pakistani variant: Layali) is a very common Arabic name for females. The word "laila" means "night" in Arabic.
"Alf Lailat wa Lailah" = "One Thousand and One Nights"
In some arab countries the name is traditionally given to girls who have dark hair, eyes, skin etc. or who are born during nighttime.
P.S. I think it is a very beautiful name, it makes me think of a pleasant dark-blue-velvet-sky summer night with the stars shining above.
