In California, a sexual relationship between an attorney and a present client is not always prohibited (though it is always a bad idea). It is improper only if the attorney is requiring sex as a condition for providing services, is coercing or intimidating the other, or is providing incompetent representation. Strangely, this rule does not apply regarding the attorney's spouse (so, apparently, one can intimidate one's spouse or provide incompetent representation!).

There is no inhibition whatsoever from the Bar on an attorney having sexual relations with a former client, and I would suspect this is true throughout the U.S., however there may be some rules about it at the attorney's firm.

Hmm...as attorney my self i would personally not go out with a client. It would attract negative attention. It depends on the case however. I am a defense lawyer and most likely would not go out with my clients. If you guys are serious then it is fine...if not i would end it.

Assuming you were not involved at any time while he was working for you, no, it won't affect his career... given that he's a lawyer, he should already know about his own code of ethics!

yes. seeing as that lawyer, had no realtion to the client while they were working. but i hope this lawyer knows, that once they engage in a personal relationship, he cannot ethically ever work for her in court. as in he could never represent her.

why should it, its his life and yours , and what he does with it when he is not at work is no ones business. as long as he does what he is suppose to be doing, there is nothing wrong with it, they too deserve to be happy with someone. and it doesn't matter with whom. if you two are happy go for it.
