How difficult is it to successful grow eggplants?

Easy. They like the same conditions as tomatos. Sunny.
The only problem I've had with them is flea beetles. Little teeny tiny black dots on the leaves that eat tiny holes in them. Spray the plant with a hot pepper spray if they show up.

Eggplants are extremely fussy but the biggest problem in the length of time to maturity. Eggplants need almost 100 to 108 days to mature. If you have a short growing season, you will not usually see the eggplant produce. Eggplant is a good plant to surround with a wall of water or some other warming method to get them in the garden early. They like a warm soil. I live in N Michigan and have given up on eggplant. I dont have a long enough growing season to prudce good results.

I live in Florida and tried them last year for the first time. I'm new to gardening so didn't do much else other than plant the seeds and wait for them to grow. I got HUGE eggplants... not too many though; about 2-3 per plant... so this year I will order more seeds and read the instructions on what to fertilize with...etc... I bought my seeds from burpee.com. I planted the white eggplant also and that one tasted amazing in an eggplant parmesan recipe. Good luck.

THEY ARE JUST AS EASY TO AS TOMATOES I GREW SOME FOR THE FIRST TIME LAST YEAR AND DIDN'T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS I ALSO GREW MARIGOLDS WITH MY PLANTS TO KEEP THE BUGD AWAY THE SCENT FROM THEM HELPS TO KEEP THEM BUG FREE WITHOUT USING A LOT OF CHEMICALS
