Most cars are not designed to travel in more than a couple inches of water. Once water gets deep enough to cover parts like brake calipers, transmission or rearend vent holes, electrical parts like sensors, modules, battery connections, starters as well as clutches, belts, radiators, air intakes, exhaust pipes - serious damage can result.

You mentioned that you felt water as high as the floor pan under the seat, which is way too deep for an ordinary passenger car.

I would take the car immediately to your mechanic and let him know what happened. You may need an oil change if any water found it's way into the crankcase, or oil changes in either your manual transmission or rearend. He should also check all the electrical components, belts, radiator, electric fans (if you have them), air intake and filter, exhaust system, CV boots and brakes for damage.

Some cars and trucks handle some degree of immersion better than others. True off-road SUV's like Jeep Wranglers, H1 Hummers, Land Rovers, Subaru Foresters can actually deal with some pretty severe water, however they are designed specifically for that with air intakes and most electrical components placed high on the chassis. Passenger cars unfortunately don't always do so well...

The smoke you are referring to is steam hopefully. A puddled street will not cover up 3/4 of your tire. Unless you are talking about 3/4 of the distance between the ground & the rim. Low or no oil pressure. will ruin your engine if driven with no oil pressure. Major $$$$

Probably not smoke but steam from under your hood. 3/4 of your tire covered for a car is pretty high. You got lucky you didn't stall. Your oil light will probably go out once everything dries out but there is a chance you shorted out a sensor. Call around and find a garage that has equipment that can diagnose your specific brand of car if it does not go out. If your vehicle is not prepared for off-road or water you should not go thru if you can help it.

I don't understand how you could feel water under your seat if water didn't get inside of your car. If you drove through a flood street, you could have gotten water into your oil or your engine.

Smoke is more than likely steam, however you should check your oil if it looks milky on the dip stick change it yourself. It's not a good idea to drive with water in oil, for on it can cause rust inside engine and oil floats on top of oil so your oil pump may be pumping mostly water through your engine, not good. Pray

my first guess would be that you did not rev the motor high enough to stop water from trucking up the tail pipe, and since its somking this would be concistent with that conclusion, im guess you need to replace rings, and change the oil and since the motor was probably nice and warm, the cold water may have cracked a head if it made it up that far

You could either have a flooded transmission or oil reservoir due to your vehicle's breather holes under the car itself.
