I am currently going to a community college, but am not sure about where to go for my bachelors. I am thinking of doing an online degree, however, I would like to go to law school when i'm done with the Bachelor's degree. Would me having a B.A/B.S from an online school hinder my chances of getting into law school? I'm not looking to get into Harvard or anything, just Rutgers in NJ. Thanks!

If you are interested in online courses, you need to go to an accredited university. There shouldn't be any reason for Rutgers to reject your online course work if it is done at a regular university or college. I know from experience because I am taking courses online in a bachelors/masters program at the University of North Texas and I have taken online courses at the local community college.

Also, the belief that online degrees are for the lazy is actually a big misconception. Getting an online degree requires a lot of self-discipline, and in most cases is actually harder than a regular, on-campus degree. The workload is higher and often the content of most online courses is harder and more exhaustive.

Here's another university to consider up near your neck of the woods: MIT offers a far more comprehensive selection of free online courses than other universities — nearly its entire undergraduate and graduate curriculum. Downloading materials takes minutes. A newsletter highlights new offerings, from Quantum Physics to American Women Authors.

I doubt they'd accept an online degree. Check with the law schools you're interested in before going that route. In any event, I'd discourage an online program anyway. Get the real deal at an actual school.

Rutgers is still a pretty decent law school. They're not going to look highly at these for-profit online schools like Univ of Phoenix. They'd much rather see you get your degree from a regular brick and mortar school.

There's a difference btw getting your degree at a regular university that offers online courses and a purely online school like the Univ of Phoenix's Axia school.

usally your LSAT score is determinitive of your admission to law school. but remember they are looking for applicants that know what hard owrk is, and they may think that an on line degree was less difficult than getting one from a university. also, they look for people that will be good communicators, on line degrees dont offer chances for your to inprove your communication skills, like a university does.

I would go to a regular university. I am in law school and I went to a cal state university. My friend got into Boalt hall at berkeley...and she went to cal state long beach, so ....

go to a university...it is also an awesome experience and I would not trade the friends that I made in school for anything. Dont cheat yourself out of that.
