yes you are correct there is a town in the states called redding and its in california.
Redding is the county seat of Shasta County, California, USA, located on the Sacramento River and on Interstate 5 south of Shasta Lake. Yes Redding is a real town and it does exist I don't know what Redding you want ? The weather channel listed 2 cities under this name
#1 Redding, CA (nestled in the Sacramento valley located in Shasta County 150 miles north of Sacramento. #2 Redding, Iowa, #3 Redding, Connecticut also came up in a google search there may be other towns with this name.
