occasionally when im using a pc, the mouse pointer will randomly move of its own accord. ill even take my hand off the mouse and the pointer will just be randomly moving smoothly in a random direction. i know its happened to lots of people. but i was wondering what the cause of this is

It is the modern equivalent of a Ouija board. That is what is was originally derived from.
Either that or you are twitching with excitement from answering questions here and have accidentally got it twitching too.
