Also how did he build or indeed fly it he had no arms..??

I take it back he did have spoons for arms.... this explains a lot, my memory isn't what it used to be..!!

well i think the correct scientific answer is as follows

100g KNO3 (aka: potassium nitrate, saltpeter)
50g sucrose (aka: white sugar, cane sugar, beet sugar also works)
18g light corn syrup (Karo Syrup is the standard brand here.)
5 tablespoons(or arm fulls) water = 80ml =1/3 cup

either that or lots of beans

Not sure about the thrust question.I reckon there could have been a bit of camera trickery there somewhere.He did have arms-they were spoons! So the ship and all his tools needed to constuct his rocket must have been specially made for things with spoons for arms.The only problem i can see that he may encounter is when wiping!
