It can vary, depending on a range of factors.
It sounds very likely that this was your miscarriage. It is suprisingly common for women to miscarry and never know they were pregnant, their period may be a few days later then expected, heavier then usual or more painful then usual.
Sorry for you loss {{{hug}}}

I had a missed miscarriage. I went in for my 8 week ultrasound and found out no heartbeat and baby stopped growing at 6wks 1day. I went back a week later and doctors ruled it a missed miscarriage. I had no spotting or cramping til 2 days before I would have been 12 weeks. I did not want a d&c even though the doctor said it'd be a good idea because my body wasn't recognizing what was happening right away. I got my hcg levels checked weekly and was only dropping slowly. I held out for natural. Our bodies will expel naturally if we're patient. I did not want to take the risks with the d&c.
I started spotting a brownish discharge for 2 1/2 days and then by the end of the third day I started bleeding pled pretty heavily. I passed about 5 really big clots...then finally after extremely painful cramping and alot of blood.. I passed the sacred after 5 1/2 hrs...once the actual red bleeding started. Once the sac expelled all of the pain ceased. Get pain meds if you can. OMG! !

It's really hard to put a timescale on miscarriages.
It is true that unusually heavy periods with a lot more abdominal pain than usual could often be an early miscarriage but would probably last a few days longer than a regular period.
I suffered a miscarriage in October when I was 16 weeks pregnant, went to Doc for routine check up, couldn't hear baby's heartbeat so went to hospital for scan the next day & it turned out my little girl had died a few days before but I had no pain, bleeding etc, it's what's called a 'missed miscarriage'. Unfortunately I had to go through over 50 hours of labour before she was born.
It doesn't matter if you were a few weeks pregnant or months, all the emotions are still the same, shock, loss and lots of tears! I feel desperately for you because it is a very hard thing to go through & I hope you had someone there to comfort you.
When the time is right for you, you'll be holding a beautiful little baby. Even though it is a cliche, these things happen for a reason & one day you'll see your little baby.

yes. miscarrages differ from person to person and the gestation of the pregnancy. some miscarry without symptoms such as cramps or blood loss and only realise when they have an ultrasound. Sometimes during an early miscarrage such as yours the woman is unaware that she is pregnant and assumes she is having a period. We have 46 chromosomes, usually when a miscarrage occurs soon after conception it is because the fertilized egg has'nt enough chromosomes it is the body's way of rejecting it. This is not genetic and does not mean that future pregnancies will end like this. Most women never know. Don't worry its probably a little shocking to learn that you was pregnant and then you was'nt. I hope this explains things a little better, take care.

About 50% of women miscarry, 30% do so before even finding out they are pregnant. The only way to tell, is how you did-testing positive on a test. You did have a lengthy period which is totally normal for people who miscarry early, and that is why they don't know. They assume they just had a bad period. Each miscarriage is individual so there is no time frame to say how long it does last...but your situation is quite normal.

The blood test (beta-hcg) is very sensitive ... so if the doc has said you were pregnant ... then you will have been
The duration of the bleeding is very variable ... You should be having a scan though, as an absolute necessity ... Has this been arranged?
If the bleeding was to become smelly, this would imply that bits and pieces were still stuck inside and were becoming infected ... this also causes bleeding to be prolonged ...
Hon ... don't know what your doc's done for you thus far in terms of getting a scan ... but if they haven't organised one, then either go back to them ... or attend the A&E dept ...
All the best x

Miscarriages vary sweetie. Sometimes people don't even know that they had a miscarriage because it comes when they're period is due and they just think it is normal. But it could have been any number of days with bleeding and pain or nothing at all. Well, i pray for you and hope my info helped. I had a miscarriage last year so i know.

The length of a miscarriage varies greatly. It depends on how far along you are and your individual body. It certainly sounds like you have had a miscarriage. Early in the first trimester a miscarriage often mimics a period though it is often more painful and sometimes longer then usual.

Hi Pryncess. From what you have said it certainly sounds like you have had a miscarraige. I'm sorry for your loss. The timescale on miscarraiges can vary from woman to woman and pregnancy to pregnancy. I have had four miscarraiges and they where all completely different. The only thing similiar was the pain and heavy bleeding. They ranged from anything form 5-14 days for me. Hope this helps Love. Again, I'm sorry to hear about your loss and wish you every success and happiness for the future. Take care. xxx
