I have a job working in IT and dealing with computers and it bores me to death. I have been offered a position as a hotel manager making slightly more than I do now. However, I work days only and being a hotel manager would require possibly nights and weekends depending on if you have a staff that will work or not. I love customer service and I think that I would like this field better than setting bored at a computer everyday, but then again I think about working IT for the government and its benefit. I have a business administartion undergrad degree. Hotel Management would be more Human Resources and dealing with people more and I like that part. I don't think I care to much for the possibility of bad hours having to possibly work weekends and nights. I think I would like to work in the field though. Right now in IT i am a contractor and maybe could get a gov't job.. I hear conflicting info. What should i do!!!

hospitality jobs always long hours and weekends. is that something you can commit to? it maybe for you now but in the long run? think about that? if you like dealing with people, why dont you look for a career in human resources ( not in hotel) in any other organization. it will be rewarding but you will be working 9 - 5 or so. if your current job is boring, i suggest still looking for another one but dont trade good benefits for long hours...find smth with good benefits, hours and smth you enjoy!

I would stay in your current job and apply for government jobs. This blurb above sounds like you are wanting the govt job despite the lack of human interaction. Govt job will insure the schedule you want (no nights/weekends). Go for what you want, not for a change for a few dollars more.

If you go into hotel mgmt, you'll have to deal with irate/demanding customers face to face. You will also have employees who try to get away with murder. You'll feel like an ultimate babysitter. Think twice about hospitality industry.

do what you will enjoy most. If you are a people person, then become a Hotel Manager. The benefits might be that great at first but it will get better as time goes by.

What about taking a course on management (or reading about it) and then decide if the management offering is what you really want to do? I work 14 to 16 hours per day, but I'm enjoying it. That's shoud be your true intention. To work with something that is also pleasant for you. That's my two cents.

Maybe you would feel better about your IT job if you had more direction over your career. Check out the PMI and SMI for certs you can get that can help you advance in a short amount of time and give you some momentum.
