by the sentence he received (proportionality) how does he do so? This is in North Carolina. Can he do it alone, or must he have an attorney?

An attorney is a good idea, because the laws in that area get complicated very quickly.

Proportionality is tough grounds to challenge the sentence, unless the sentence was mandated by statute and the defendant is challengin the statute under the 8th Amendment.

There are a lot of jail house lawyers, have one of them help him Thur the law library. Kinda sounds like the sentence has been handed down under the habitual criminal act deserving of more time
