First and always, she needs to contact her doctor, it is perfectly normal. I am pregnant with twins, 22 and half weeks and spot periodically. The doctor told me that this is normal throughout your second tri mester and if you have placenta previa, which I did with my first three, it is normal through the whole thing. Even with cramping. Always though have her tell her doctor, they will check her cervix, make sure she isn't thinning or dialating and might do an ultrasound to check for placenta pervia. Tell her it is almost 99% of the time perfectly harmless, but should still be checked out, better safe than sorry. That is what the doctor is there for.

Some people spot their whole pregnancy. But if she hasn't spotted before now she should see her doctor. When I was pregnant, I was about 5 months pregnant and I started bleeding. Ends up that my placenta was really close to the cervix, they put me on light duty til the end of my pregnancy. They wanted me to stop working completely, but I said no. I was in the hospital once a month after that cause I would just gush blood/clots, so they would monitor me and send me home. So she should talk to her doctor about it, it may be nothing it may be something-wouldn't want to take the chance.(I never had cramping when I was bleeding)

Spotting can sometimes happen during pregnancy, but it is better to let the doctor determine if it is normal for her. It is a good sign that there is no cramping, and if she was recently at the doctor and had a pelvic exam, that may be the reason. However, I would still advise her to go to the doctor, just to be on the safe side.

There can be numerous reasons for spotting, many that are perfectly normal. Some women will spot every month around the time that they should of had a period. She should talk to her doctor, tho. Tell her to call and speak to the nurse, they are used to these calls and can be very helpful. Don't worry about being a bother, that is what they are there for. She should definitely seek medical attention if it gets severe or is bright red.

Sometimes it is. I actually had heavy bleeding at 3 months along (no cramps) and I continued along through my pregnancy and now have a happy healthy 2 year old.

No matter what, any kind of spotting should be reported to the OB so she can be examined to make sure nothing is wrong.

Good luck to your friend.

my doctor told me that 4/10 women will spot in early pregnany and 2/4 will miscarry. but your friend seems far along to be at a high risk for a miscarriage. so just as long as its not a lot of bleeding, like where its filling pads, then she should be ok. she should tell her doctor and have them check her out. Good Luck!
