I remember those smiles! The sleep smiles sre so cute, they really warm you heart don't they? My daughter was giving these smiles and laughs from birth and gave her first "real" smile at 8 weeks. You're obviously doing a great job as a parent as you're baby must be very contented to be smiling in her sleep.
It won't be long now :)

Actually babies do smile. Some even smile in the womb!
However, the smile is not a social smile.

It is common for babies to smile when falling asleep, or even passing gas. But it is not a smile the baby realizes is happening. A baby doesn't socially smile, or smile as a reaction to an outside stimulation (you for example) until 2 months or later.

My daughters smiled in the hospital a day or two after they were born. Everyone will tell you that this is "just gas", but how do they know? And who smiles when they have gas? ;-)

Some babies smile sooner, some later, and it's so difficult to say. It's definitely a feeling of anticipation, but it will be here soon enough and you will be in all of your glory!

Congratulations and good luck to you and your baby!

Typically, an infant will begin smiling around 8 weeks of age. My daughter was about 8 weeks old when she first started to smile (meaning she smiled when talked to or made faces at, not just because) and my son was around 6 weeks old. It is possible your baby is smiling because she is enjoying her surroundings. Don't worry, lots of smiles are to come!!! Congrats :)

the average baby starts smiling around the age of 4 - 6 wks. it is believed that babies see angels in their sleep so that may be why your daughter smiles in her sleep. babies first smiles are usually as a response not just as a distribution. when babies have been fed, had their diapers clean and everything is ship shape and perfect they also smile and are happy.

my baby is 12 weeks and has been smiling, talkin and squeeling for over a month now. I think about 6-10 weeks is about the right time.
