This is a little embarrasing but haven't been able to find any info else where on the net. For the last two - three weeks I have been having light cramping, I can't really explain them but they feel different than normal period cramps, three days ago I started what i thought was my period but its unlike any period I have ever had. I am having thick brown mucus, almost like what you would have at the very end of a period, but alot more of it, and now there are black chunks in it. Also, I have had really bad heartburn lately and swollen breasts. I know heartburn and swollen breasts are a sign of pregnancy, but have no idea what the brown mucus/discharge is. Is it possible I'm pregnant but miscarrying? Or is the weird dischange normal with pregnancy and are there any other causes for it? I did a pregnancy test but it was a dud so didn't receive results either way. I am going to wait a few days and do another but wanted to make sure its nothing I should receive medical attention for.

Thanks for the answers. My periods come at irregular times so don't really know if it is late or not. If they were normal it would be late but sometimes I can go up to 4 months with out one. I am going to try and retake a test tonight and go to the clinic in the morning.

I'm not a Dr but sounds like a pregnancy to me. Brown mucus would be old blood so wouldn't really be anything to worry about. Bright blood with pain would be cause for concern. I would retest and call the Dr either way. If you are pregnant you need an apointment and if you period is late I would talk to the Dr about what they think could be going on.

You definitely should see a doctor as soon as possible. It sounds like you've miscarried. The symptoms you experienced earlier could have been pregnancy, and now you're quite possibly experiencing a miscarriage.

The only way to know for sure is to go to your Gyno. If you've miscarried, you will need to be checked out down there to make sure that everything's still okay. There's a small chance that something could have been damaged. It's routine after miscarriages.

However, if you haven't miscarried, you still need to seek medical attention because what you're going through is not normal. I don't mean to alarm you or anything, it's just that you never know what could be wrong. Better safe than sorry! These things are usually something small like an infection, which is easily cured with antibiotics, but only your doctor will know for sure.

Common signs of a miscarriage include:

Vaginal bleeding.
Abdominal, lower back, or pelvic pain.
Tissue that passes from the vagina.
Bleeding that is light or heavy, constant or irregular. It can sometimes be difficult to know whether light bleeding is a sign of miscarriage. When bleeding is accompanied by pain, however, the likelihood of miscarriage is high.
Sometimes miscarriage causes no symptoms for several weeks after the embryo or fetus has died. This is called a missed miscarriage. Over time, pregnancy-related breast tenderness and weight gain diminish. A medical exam is usually needed to see whether you have had a missed miscarriage.

How is a miscarriage diagnosed?
If you are concerned that you might be miscarrying, see your health professional. If your symptoms and a pelvic exam do not show whether you are having a miscarriage, your health professional can test your blood for changes in your pregnancy hormone levels, perform an ultrasound test, or both.

See your doctor!!
