recently it was decided at walmart that the third shift in the bakery was shut down leaving my mom to go to a different department. my mom is now in this department and the other night someone called in an order for 13 dozen doughnuts she was told about it and refused to do it and was sent home for it and was written up as well can she report this because she's no longer tied to the responsibilities of the bakery.

Your mom's responsibilites are to the company and the customers, not her department. Wal-Mart has very strict policies regarding customer service and by their actions they take them seriously.

Your mom screwed up and just needs to go to work and do her job to the best of her abilities. Or find another job.

if your mom moved out of the bakery department on a regular basis. she should explain that to her supervisor or else she needs to have clarified what her new duties are and have them written into her file. if she was told she no longer works in bakery but works in footwear than she needs to also report the person who told her that she didnt have to work in bakery anymore.. sounds like a big misunderstanding unless your mom really didnt want to do the work..

If she doesn't feel like working at WalMart, she should quit. There is no such thing as "thats not my job" at a place of commerce. The only excuse would be "I am not qualified" or "there is no time to do that before I leave - but I will help until I must depart".

Jan,

This is other reason Wal-Mart get slammed for not having a union! In addition to the low wages, they can abuse their employees like this. I'm not a big union supporter but, in cases like this, she would have been protected. The union would be all over management like a dirty blanket for it.

Her best option is to check with the local labour board and see what they recommend.
