When a woman is very/overly confident and is happy with herself - her physique and personality...people say she is conceited and selfish..egotistical..etc
But when a woman is down with her looks and personality...people tell her she needs to be more confident and love yourself..etc
WHY the double standards? And YOU know who you are who does this..
I used to be shy and people told me to socialise more and be happy with myself,,,so now that I am...
I am now self absorbed?
What is with this perception...this society is always in conflict..
So people...do we be sad with ourself or happy?

Thanks Pam. I like your attitude. Its not as if people actually care so just be happy!
Its usually miserable people who say that happy people are conceited..

That depends on whether you are coming across as confident or are seen as conceited!
Confidence is very attractive.....love yourself by all means, but just because you may be beautiful to look at, don't be mistaken that it is the most important thing about you...its not.
Beauty is only skin deep!

HERE HERE! i have found that out of my big bunch of mates i can probably only trust one or two of them! when things are going well for you they all get together and call you a jammy git or lucky so and so but when things are going wrong they all get together and laugh! why not be happy for you when your up and there for you when your down. i love going out with my mates but i am now very wary of all of them. lets just say everyone has got something on everyone else that could cause fights and broken friendships! i know loads about certain mates. it society i'm afraid and a good film based on this is final cut with jude law and ray winstone. its about a guy who dies and at his wake he leaves all his friends a tape to watch together as he has been secretly filming them all for a year! lets just say they are not friends at the end. also my dad is a cab driver and he is allways telling me about groups of mates or couples that get in his cab and then when one gets out the remaining people in the cab slag her/him off like mad and then the same when the next person gets out!!

Because people always want something to criticize. It's like when you're criticized for not smiling but when you do someone says "What are YOU smiling at?"

A person should be happy with themselves. They just don't have to go around telling everyone how happy they are with themselves.
It should be an internal thing.

Your question asked 'why are people.........', your examples give questions posed towards women...., I think you have answered your own question....it is not people, it is only women who have double standards!!!!
