Sunday is not a "public holiday". It is nothing more than a scheduled "day off".
My guess is that your school had unscheduled days off due to weather or something else. Each state has a minimum number of days that a school MUST be in session. If they have too many days off due to a snow storm or something - then they have to make them up.
Or - this may be a disiplinary action - which would have to be approved by the school administration.

My guess is - it will not be a real tough day - just inconvenient.

Be glad that you can go to school, and if one Sunday is required, so what? In some countries, there aren't any schools for everyone, and people can't read. How would you survive if you couldn't read or write? Just as an experiment, try going without reading or writing for one day, if you can. Best wishes

Christ said He already came to fulfill the Law, you can now worship him in spirit any day of the week and it will be credited to your faith.
