Economics.. if people will pay it, then they charge it.
Stop paying this kind of money for an evening's entertainment.. no ball games, no hockey games, no concerts! Is a live show worth that much to you?
I blame Ticketmaster for the rapid rise. When they came on the scene, ticket prices, plus convenience and handling charges, facility charges, venue taxes, shipping charges, extra charges for overnight delivery all acted to inflate the ticket prices.
Don't get me wrong, I love live music. but my last arena show (the Who) was not satisfactory.. I've gotten to the point that I'd rather see a relatively unknown band at a small venue over any of these old bands.. It's just not worth it!
And another thing... $5600.00 to see GENESIS?? You must be out of your f-ing mind!

Its because in the music industry, the artists cannot make money from record sales most make somewhere between 3-5 cents a record. and they have to pay thier lawyers, agents, assistants, even back to the record company (they actually have to pay for studio time and producers and resources) etc from that money. By the time they are through paying everyone they are left with very little money and sometimes in debt.
The ONLY way they get to make any kind of money is through touring and even out of your ticket money, they have to pay the crew, the expenses, hotels, buses, planes, food, costumes, coreographers, sound people everything form the price of your ticket and still have some left over to live on.
Hope that explains it. Its crazy, but its mainly because the record company takes such a HUGE chunk out of thier record sales.

Keep in mind that a lot of musicians don't make much $$ off of record sales, the record label gets most of that. The real money for the musicians is from the live shows. Plus, Genesis has been around for a while, they have a huge fan base and they know there's a die-hard fan out there somewhere that's going to pay whatever it takes to get close to the stage. I mean, it's Phil Collins, one the best drummers ever. Of course you're going to pay a lot.

Youd never see me paying that much. Only the elite can get floor tickets,or,if your on a special fanlist you might get floor tickets for cost, depends on the band and what special promotions you can discover on their webpage.I cant believe some people will pay that much.

WOW! That's a lot. What concert are you trying to see??
I figured the only reason why it's so expensive is because the Artist only do it for the money.... and popularity. The most popular they are... the more the concert ticks cost.
I mean I go to a lot of Christian concerts and the most I've spend was like $35. for good seats.. but I go to a lot of festivals so I spend like $100 for 4 nights of the biggest Christian artist out there. like Relient K and Switchfoot. and also Newsboys and TobyMac.

if people will pay that much, they will ask for it. People will pay that much, and they want 2 make money, so they ask for that much.

They charge that much because people pay that much. If idiots with too much money stopped paying that much, they would stop charging that much.

Some performers are just money sluts! For them, it's only about the money and not the music.
