I am 10 weeks pregnant and just wanted to know when to expect an ultrasound. I had my first visit today and am scheduled in 2 weeks. Is that when i get an ultrasound?

Usually they do the ultrasound at 20 weeks. The baby is good and developed by then and they can do measurements to see if he/she is growing properly - this is when they tell you the sex of the baby if they can tell.

It all depends on you and your doctor. Some doctors will routinely do an ultrasound soon after your first appointment, while some will wait until you are five months along.

Personally, with this pregnancy and when I was pregnant with my daughter, I had very early ultrasounds. An early ultrasound is a good diagnostic tool. An early ultrasound can tell you if the baby has settled in the uterus or if the pregnancy is ectopic. It can also check on the early development of the baby.

I don't have any on-going medical conditions that would mandate an early ultrasound. Yet, I had one at 10 weeks when I was pregnant with my daughter and when I was 9 weeks pregnant this time around. I did have a miscarriage with my last pregnancy, but that really had very little do to with my early ultrasound this time around.

At 5-6 weeks, a vaginal ultrasound can detect a heartbeat. No, you will not see much as you baby would not lok much like a baby at that point. The baby would look more like a grain of rice at a 5 week ultrasound. But you would probably be able to see your little one's heartbeat!

At my 9 weeks ultrasound with this baby, I was able to see the baby moving around. We were also able to see and hear the baby's heartbeat!

If you are interested in getting an ultrasound before the "traditional" 20 week ultrasound, call your doctor and see if it is a possibility. It can never hurt to ask!

Congratulations and good luck!

Usually at 12 weeks they listen for a heartbeat. Ultrasounds aren't done until you are around 5 months unless there is a question about when you got pregnant or unless you have a problem.

Sometimes if you are having pain the doc will order an ultrasound. You can't really tell the gender until around 5 months though. I think that's why they wait until then to do it.

If you have a reason or concern that you would like to have one sooner because of I would bring it up to the doc and see what can be done. They are willing to work with people. Ultrasounds don't hurt the baby.

Typically the 1 ultrasound most insurances cover is done at 18-20 weeks along.

However, insurances do cover additional ultrasounds during pregnancies if the doctor administering them feels it is a medical necessity....ie...medical history, irregular periods (to determine size of baby for due date)....and other variations. I had several ultrasounds with each pregnancy....checking for fluid levels, past medical history...... so there are reasons for numerous ultrasounds but typically just the one.

If you have a regular pregnancy going on right now and your doctor isn't alarmed about anything in your past, you will most likely have your first and last ultrasound at 18-20 weeks. This is also the same time we get to see what the sex of our baby is, which is why we have to wait that long ....any earlier in the pregnancy the sex of the baby won't be so prominent. This is also the time where they do several measurements of baby to see if the growth is right on chart, or if the organs are in place and working fine....stuff like that.

Good luck. Guess you're looking at another 8-10 weeks to see if that beautiful baby of yours is a boy or a girl.

Its different all the time... with my kids i didn't know when my last period was so i had to have an ultra sound around before 12 weeks so they could find out how far along i was. Other than to give you a due date you probably won't have one until closer to 20 weeks... they need to see that the baby is developing properly and the baby needs to be far enough along to see all 10 fingers/10 toes and all the valves in the heart and also make sure the lungs are developing.... so you probably will NOT be getting an ultra sound in 2 weeks unless your doctor tells you that that is what your going for. Your doctor is there to answer ANY question you may have so go for it girl.... ask away :) Good luck with the baby !!!

It all depends on your doctor, Many do an ultrasound at about 12 weeks, because that's the best time to estimate the baby's age (how far along you are). Some wait until 20 weeks, other doctors may do one both times. Your doctor should be able to tell you for sure what the practice is there. Congratulations and good luck!

An ultrasound to find out what the baby will be? That'll be done around 20 weeks b/c thats around the time that the doc will be able to tell if it's a g or b.. Any sooner and they could be wrong! They might do a scan to hear the heartbeat at the next visit, but probably wont do one to see the baby unless there is something going wrong to where they need to check on it:)

Good luck & Congrats!

Usually between 18 and 22 weeks, but my doctor did it every visit because he had the the machine in his office. That kind of situation is becoming more and more common... but the 20 week ultrasound is the one where you find out the sex of the baby and make sure they're healthy..

Doctors will perform ultrasounds as early as 6-8 weeks, although there is not guarantee that they will be able to see anything that early. A lot of times your insurance company has a lot more to do with when you get your ultrasound. If they won't approve it until you're a certain number of weeks along, then you have to wait. You could give your insurance company a call and ask them their policy.

It depends on the doctor and your pregnancy history. Some doctors will give an ultrasound on the first visit to confirm pregnancy and due date....some will wait until around week 20 to do the first one.

If you have a history of miscarriage or ectopic they will generally do one on the first visit and then as needed afterwards.

It really all depends on your OB and your health insurance.

Some doctor's like to do an ultrasound early on to determine exactly how far along you really are.

Most of the time, though, an ultrasound is typically done around 20 weeks.
