I am an American living in Mexico for 6 months. I do not have a passport as it was not required when I came here (By bus) and I didnt want to wait up to 6 months to get one. I know someone cant fly from the US to Mexico without a passport because of the new law. But can I fly out of Mexico back to the US or within Mexico with the ID that I do have (Drivers License, Original Birth Certificate, 180 day Tourist card)?

I'm not so sure about being able to re-enter the USA without a passport (I think not). But you can definitely fly anywhere within Mexico with just an ID or tourist card, no problem with that.

That is an excellent question. You need to speak to someone in immigration or to someone in the USA Embassy.

I do know you can drive out of Mexico into the USA without a passport this year. The requirement will change next year. You have enough ID.

Good Luck.

Take a bus out of Mexico & get a passport when you arrive back home. If you are close to a US Consulate in MX, It only take 3 weeks or so to get one.

No, you need a passport. Best bet s to fly into a border city, cross with your DL and fly from the nearest us city to your destination.
