If you are doing homework, you might need to reread the question. Since both are elements, it takes one atom to make hydrogen and one atom to make lithium. The two atoms have different structures. Hydogen contains one proton and one electron. Lithum contains 3 electrons and 3 protons. In the natural word, hydrogen clumps together in the form of 2 hydrogen atoms, while lithium is monoatomic.

A hydrogen molecule contains 2 atoms, and has the formula H2.

A sample of lithium, though, contains an almost infinite number of Li atoms, but its formula is written simply as Li.
