I have M4A files on itunes but i have an mp3 player, not an ipod. How can i make the files work on media player?

If they are unprotected, iTunes will let you click on the file and pick "Convert to MP3."

However, if they are protected (e.g., downloaded from the iTunes music store), you cannot legally convert them.

The trick, however, is to use iTunes to burn to a music CD. Then, re-rip the CD to unprotected MP3. It works, although it takes time and you lose a little sound quality.

you can always burn the songs onto a CD then upload them onto whatever program you're supposed to use for your mp3 player
