I assume it was the Black nurse who initially made an issue out of what you said. Assuming this to be the case, her response to your perfectly reasonable question was an absolute disgrace, but the charge nurses intentions were probably even worse, because that person should have been the voice of reason within the hospital.
What sort of climate of fear have these left wing race zealots created, when perfectly normal every day language is wilfully mis-construed? It is like the days of the 'witch finder general' from our murky past. You had absolutely NOTHING to apologise about. These race zealots have to be confronted and backed down.
Incidentally, you did say black or WHITE. It is a case, therefore, of, 'honi soit qui mal y pense'. (shame on he who thinks evil of it) PS. you don't want people like that, probably on the make, as a friend. Particularly, when they are prepared to put your job on the line.
I understand that the training of nurses is now the responsibility of Universities, rather than the professional training facilities that used to operate under the auspices of teaching hospitals. Now, that is more significant than most people realise, because, universities are hot-beds of left wing thinking and social engineering, and that will be reflected in the training of nurses. So, this makes it far more likely that you are going to encounter a greater degree of hyper-sensitivity regarding race etc. amongst the staff.
So, this climate of fear, that the left wing PC zealots are creating, is actually causing divisions within society, rather than healing them. But, then again, isn't that their intention? Because they feed off these divisions politically, and secure future sources of funding to support their predjudices and/or livelihood.
The only excuse your ex-friend could have to excuse her behaviour, is that, she has probably been brainwashed.

once there was a time when it did not make any difference if someone was white, black, blue or yellow , it did not matter what he did or how he lived, the only distiction was if he was "good" or " bad" ( the distinction being if he was a good person in your neighbourhood or a bad one. i.e. criminal , and times were happy, and now we have the p.c. brigade and times are ****, the lazy , the bad, the incompetent get promoted and up because they can now play the game of the underprivileged , the abused, and whatever, and the rest of us has to walk as on raw eggs in order to make sure we do not offend somebody as otherwise we get sued and convicted and loose everything that had been gained with hard work and honesty.so, how do you drink your coffee than ? white or black , oops, sorry, can't say that no more , okay , natural or coloured ,****? that is not possible either, with or without ? what? sugar, milk, sacharine, buiscuits, spoon? now you are not making sense , you now something? fu** it, would you like some water?

P.C. is a nightmare/ If the people who dreamed this up could hear Charlie Williams the comedian from Yorkshire I think they would die laughing.
P.C. is an appeasment factor that has got so far out of hand in many ways and normal human beings are getting just that little bit tired of it and are often frightened to speak.

yes,its quite insane.a nursing assistant where i used to work was fired because she told a black nurses aid not to put vaseline into a white patients hair to condition it,as it wouldnt easily wash out.and,i agree-and im black.she meant no offense, she was stating a fact.the vaseline went into the patients hair, and as predicted,it sat there, impervious to washing.her family complained on behalf of the girl who issued the warning, but she was not rehired.its shouldnt be a crime to state the obvious-such as hair texture differences warrant different conditioners!it makes everyone paranoid, resentful and confused.it isnt a hate messege to say, another hair conditioner might be preferable !!!

It don't thinks it's really to do with political correctness. There's always been idiots in every walk of life. People with an inflated sense of their own importance who take pleasure in making other peoples lives harder.

I would be greatly offended if you said the same thing to me.
I'm white and I find it racially offensive to have my colour denigrated by people as inconsiderate as you are.
