As far as the GDP goes, the United States is actually the poorest country in the world.

Japan is by far the richest followed shortly by Germany.

If you're ever interested in this information you can go to the world factbook on the CIA website.

Now if we're talking the richest per capita, I believe Monoco is the richest.

But don't worry, most of our debt is internal and could be repaid if we received money back from all the countries we've given gifts and support to. Want something to keep you awake at night? Look at our exports vs imports with China. At the rate we're going, they'll be the richest by 2025.

Definitely
The united states goverment holds the highest reserve of money on the planet. With a GDP of around 11 trillion dollars vs World GDP around 30 trillion dollars, The United states alone produces 1/3 of world's wealth.

Americans are also the wealthiest citizens
When it comes to GDP per capita, the U.S hanks as one of the richest nations on the planet. But there are some countries in europe, specially the ones in scandinavia that have a higher GDP per head than the U.S.

However, that doesnt mean people in those countries are wealthier than American people are. Wealth is strictly linked to the concept of Labor productivity. In a country High labor productivity, that is, in a country where workers produce more in less time, goods are gonna cost less. Other nations lag well behind the U.S in labor productivy. So that means, that even if the average income of, say, a swedish is higher than its U.S counterpart, they will not be able to have a purchasing power as high as of their U.S counterpart since on average americans will pay less for things(other than health care, he he)

Europe Union despite not being a single country, but a bloc that behaves itself like a big country nudges America when it comes to wealth
