I am going to be doing the first Mothers day, without my Husband and don't know how to handle it, or what to do with my kids any suggestions from split parents that have been in the same situation.

It's not because I expect big presents or material things, it's the emotional side on our whole family as it used to be a big occasion with the whole family .getting together for a meal at home and family stuff,I don't know how much they will notice it's all gone.

It's not all gone, you're still there and your children are still there. My parents split when I was young and my mum is the strongest, best advice giver, and most wonderful person I know. Try not to worry to much, Kids are as tough as the stains they leave!

Do you have any good friends who have kids that can get all the kids together to make Mothers day gifts - theoretically in a way that your kids can still surprise you?
Depends on how old your kids are. Can you make a big picnic of lovely foodstuffs that are easy to eat and visit a good park to do silly stuff like fly kites?

Not sure I understand the question. Is this because you make a big deal of it and have been taken out by your husband and had gifts and stuff?
Maybe you need to look at the positive side. As I understand it this was mainly a 'church' thing about being thankful to your mum for all the little things she does but has now become this monstrous fesitval of flowers and restaurants seconded only by Valentine's day.
Maybe take some time out, be grateful for your kids, take them out and have a good time. There are lots of mums out there who will have lost children who will be feeling absolutely wretched and you are feeling sorry for yourself cos all you'll get is a homemade card. Shame on you.

It's Mother's Day, That's a time to celebrate you. You can either enjoy the day with the kids or do something special for yourself.
Either way the day is about you celebrating motherhood.
You don't need a husband to do that.

If your children are not old enough to spoil you
then spoil yourself
if you can afford go out and have dinner
pamper yourself , buy yourself a gift.
I know this is not the same
but what can you do :-(
When i have been apart from my partner at that time
either my mum or sister would think of me and buy me something from my young children
and one of my friends would always tx me to say happy mothers day.
Treat yourself and the kids
make a good day of it!

If you have any family close to you, have one of them talk to the kids about what they want to do for you for mothers day. Then have this person help them do it, offer to pay for it, just dont let the kids know, act like it is all a surprise. If you have no close family, maybe have the baby sitter or someone they are close to talk to them about it.

My kids would make me something, or go pick flowers, and then I would take us all out to eat, but tell them that was my present from them. They loved it, and we all still had a great time!
