I'm 31 weeks pregnant (32 tomorrow).....
My baby seems to move in very strange ways, sometimes she will be very active for up to 3 hours at a time!! My stomach will look like something out of "Alien", and then she may not move at all for up to 4-5 hours.. Should I be worried, or is she just sleeping off all that energy!?
Another thing is that sometimes, she moves as if she were shaking violently. I told the doctor and he didn't seem worried, but it doesn't feel normal. This has been happening since I was about 25 weeks. Has anyone else had this? Is it normal? Why isn't my doc worried?
I have had a high risk pregnancy, so maybe I'm over-protective of my baby, but I'd love anyone else's opinions!
Thanks!

Well your doctor isn't worried probably because he/she has seen and heard it all! I have had a couple times recently where the baby would move and it looked like he was shaking a little in part of his body. I don't know what it was, but he seemed to be fine, and he'd go back to his normal kicking and turning. As far as the few hours of no movement, that is very normal. Since you are at 32 wks, the movement is going to be slowing down even more until labor, since the baby is running out of room to move. And at this time, babies are supposed to have normal awake and asleep periods, like a newborn baby. You sound totally normal to me, and you've made it this far! Not long from now you'll be holding your little girl... congrats!

Wow, I would be worried to if I felt my baby shaking. My son never shook, bue he did move a lot, especially when I wanted to sleep. The Alien thing you said is exactly what I thought. If you're having the same problem at night, I'll tell you what helped me. My husbands hand on my belly. Put him right back to sleep every time. His hand is so warm and the pressure worked every time. I would be concerned with the shaking though. Try to notice if there are any triggers, ie certain times of the day, after you eat a certain type of food or anything, then try to plan an ultra-sound around that time to see if the doctor can see anything. Good-Luck!!!

Doc is not worried b/c this means you have a perfectly normal healthy baby in there. They follow wake/sleep patterns in utero and when you don't feel anything she is taking a siesta LOL. You say she shakes violently...hiccups maybe? Mine looks (and feels) like Alien too when that happens...Of course almost ALWAYS right when I lay down to get my OWN rest...

I've had that. There is no problem with the your baby it's normal just enjoy every movement. That is a wonderful feeling.I've been pregnant 5 times and I enjoy every movement my babies make. Good luck and it's o.k. to be over-protective.

First , Congrats on the baby on the way!! When I was pregnant with my 3rd child he would push and kick and jump and roll ...lol! He was quite active. One day we actually saw his the shape of his hand! This would go on for hours in the evening. It seems that when you are moving around the baby is kind of "rocked to sleep" and then when you are resting they are ready to roll!

"she moves as if she were shaking violently"
I had to ask the ladies on here about that when it happend to me. It felt like she was having seizures or something. They all reassured me that they had gone through it and it was normal. she only does it every once in a while now, so I would say it was normal. It all sounds normal to me! Good luck and God bless!

my third pregnancy was like this. he would move erraticly that i would think something was wrong. he was just having a good time in there. it's natural to be overprotective. my husband laughed at me when i told him not to let the kids play outside because they might get hit by lightening. it was a cloudy day. we all tend to worry but try to just enjoy it and when she does move crazy-style, just ask her if she's all right in there. play with your belly too, she likes to play with you. i would push on a foot, at least i thought it was a foot. then he would kick me back. have fun with it. it's almost over!
