I love movies and I love writing, so it sounds like a sweet career.

I got my start by finding a local newspaper that didn't already have a critic. I wrote them a detailed letter stating why they should hire me. I also sent writing samples (I had been a critic for my college paper.) It worked, and I got hired.

The trick is to find an under-served market. You can also create your own website and do it yourself. You'd be surprised how far that can take you. (Believe me - it can take you pretty far.) Be warned, though: the money isn't great. You can't beat the perks, but unless you're name is Ebert or you write for a major publication, you won't get rich doing this job.

Write some reviews before going to your local news paper, that way they know your writing style and if you are any good.

Contact your local newspaper (if your in a fairly large city) and see if they would like to hire you for weekly movie reviews.
