First, about the person who recommended a bike helmet: never ever use a bike helmet for riding. It doesn't offer the same protection and most instructors will insist on a proper riding helmet. Riding in a bike helmet is like riding in no helmet at all.
I would recommend Dover Saddlery (http://www.doversaddlery.com/), State Line Tack (http://www.statelinetack.com), or Equestrian Collections (http://www.equestriancollections.com/) for helmets. You can pick up a certified helmet by International or Troxel (both reputable brands) for between $25 and $30. Remember, these types of helmets aren't allowed in the show ring. If you intend to show, you'll need either a certified velvet helmet (hardly ever seen these days) or a carbon helmet with suede or velvet finish in the style of the GPA. The GPA helmet, which is seen almost exclusively on the circuit these days, runs well upward of $375. There are knock-offs available by International and Charles Owen for slightly cheaper, though.

merely be weary in case you purchase some thing online. make useful that the clothing suits wisely. by no skill purchase a 2nd hand helmet, you would be able to desire to continually purchase a sparkling helmet and if obtainable get it geared up. you would be nice procuring clothing, inclusive of tops, jodhpurs etc. online, yet be careful with protection kit e.g. helmet and physique protectors. yet eBay and Amazon could be very much less costly.

How cheap do you need it to be?Its gonna be a little bit of money. There are places like where I work which is a tack shop plus feed store that has them. His price has known to be very reasonable from saddles to all kinds of stuff.Mr.Tommy can ship one to you if you know the size you need.He knows his business and he knows his horses too.Are you just using it for trail riding or show?I have known people to use bike helmets. Some are approved for that also. The place is Family Farm Store in North Carolina. We have many come from out of state to our store. We ship saddles and all kinds of tack to our out of state customers. We dont charge your arm and leg for shipping either.Give him a call and tell him Shanan gave you the info. The number is 910-483-6309.He is a very nice man.Very good to talk to.

You can find a Troxel schooling helmet that is ASTM/SEI approved for about $45-$50 dollars.
Dover and Stateline will carry Troxels.

i would look for a TSC (tractor supply company)...their website is http://mytscstore.com ...don't go too cheap, but you can get well-priced, quality helmets there. I go there for helmets, western tack, feed, halters...everything.
