The NYNY has dollar located inside but they aren't very good. I would suggest renting from the airport using Avis or Budget. Maybe even Enterprise.

The Grand Canyon is about 45 minutes away and yes, very easy to find lodging.

If you are flying into a New York area airport, there are car rental companies at each of them. Just be sure you make a reservation long before you get into the area, as there may not be many/any cars left when you get there.
The drive to the Grand Canyon will take approximately 4 to 5 days of long-distance driving each day -- probably 8 or more hours per day average. Again, plan the trip route and be sure you have hotel reservations. There are few hotels at the Grand Canyon. RESERVATIONS are a must here. There is a lodge right on the rim of the Grand Canyon, but check the website for availability.
I am assuming you are traveling from outside the US, correct?
If the Grand Canyon is the primary purpose of your trip, you should fly into Las Vegas -- it's a much shorter drive.
