I remember reading an article that a 318 dodge engine would fit in the 1980s version of the dodge daytona. The story stated that it could also be made into RWD with a new rear. Has anyone ever heard of this?

I haven't done this myself, but I know they exist. Chrysler raced these in Pro Stock, and there are a few roadgoing versions as well. The Mopar Performance Chassis Manual mentions a long-discontinued kit for fitting the engine in the front, but has no advice on what to do for a rear suspension (although the Daytona's solid axle rear suspension may make this a bit easier than it sounds). It's really a job for a serious chassis fabricator, or a really determined backyard hack with a welding torch and a lot of time.
