There is no creature that will keep your glass clean. Some may nibble on it a little, but if you want to rid your glass of algae, you will have to use an algae scraper or an algae sponge, or address the problem that is causing the algae (too much light, too close to a window etc).
For algae eaters, some options would be smaller plecos like bushy-nose plecos or rubber-lip plecos, or the tiny otocincluc (get at least 3 of them).

Chinese algae eaters are out of the question because although they are good algae eaters as youngsters, they grow into aggressive carnivores.

Siamese algae eaters are not good options either because they do not have sucker mouths, thus preventing them from eating much algae off the glass.

However, note that I have oto cats and/or plecos in most of my tanks, and the glass still has algae on it until I scrape it off.

Chinese algae eaters are a nasty, mean little fish once they reach maturity. Try otocinculus, it's a suckermouth catfish that will really get after some algae. Also, they stay very small, 2 inches, and like to be in groups so get 3 or more. BTW, most pleco's are omnivorous, and will be more useful to clean the substrate and decor than the glass.

undecided the place to start in this. So we could be methodical. A) Fish isnt ingesting flake food at feeding time. - Flake food isn't what he is going to consume. a common Algae eater isn't a deteritous eater. they'll consume algae that grows on the partitions and stones interior the tank, or waffers you put in. in spite of the indisputable fact that! Any new arrivals won't consume for some days as they aclimante to their new atmosphere. B) tank is over stocked. SEVERLY. -despite in case you had in basic terms the pleco in there, it might nonetheless be over stocked. This fish will strengthen into 18 inches+ long. should not be stored in a 5 gallon tank for any lengh of time. stress from being over crowded could save him from ingesting. additionally because of the fact the tank is over stocked, the dissolved oxygen content textile of the tank my be low. Plecos require two times the oxygen of their water than that of maximum conventional swimming fish. C) Nipping is undesirable. - this additionally motives "stress" on your new arrival which will positioned him off his ingesting sport. Any nipping could be warning signs of aggression which will stress out your fish. What do i opt for to recommend? in case you dont have an more advantageous tank to place your pleco into (a minimum of 30gals), return him to the save the place you acquire him. Be the compassionate guy or woman that whats your fish to have an outstanding existence. think of of it this type...might you opt for to stay in a 5"x5" room with six different individuals for the the remainder of your shortened existence? See in case you may commerce the pleco for a snail or 2. Snails consume incredibly much something, and can stay in incredibly much something.

algae eaters are good for that, dojo loaches will also keep the tank clean (and look cooler than an algae eater). other bottom feeders (and i have em all) that seem to work well while at cleaning the tank are catfish, snails, and frogs. i have not had to change my water in a long time (other than adding some fresh and changing the filter).
