I also only have one pair of shoes. I've worn them for 2.5 years and they just started falling apart. They're men's black vans with red checks and black and red checkered flat shoe laces. I love them to death! The backs have deteriorated and the soles come out when you take your feet out sometimes, but I wear them still. I had to put cotton balls in the ankle back and then put tape on it since the backs are bare now but, it's a labor of love, every time they come undone. However, they are not exactly horrid looking, they're actually almost as clean as when I bought them (I don't shop much so I keep all my stuff in mint condition). Anyways, I did recently buy a new pair of shoes. They're women's new balances and they hurt my ankles T_T They have round shoe laces so they come undone, LITERALLY every 5 steps, no matter what I do to tie them. *sigh* So my answer to your question...no...none of my shoes are horrible looking cuz I'm anal when it comes to keeping things in good repair and using them past their fullest intended use...like a throw-a-way toothbrush ^^

Nope. Definitely not.
Sometimes, you just have to invest and spend more for your comfort.
A lot of signature/branded shoes that I've got are both stylish and comfortable.
You just have to keep on looking and trying things. Once you've tried a brand that fits you well and makes you forget you're wearing shoes, keep on going back for more!

Mostly, why can't they make newbalances better looking? Almost everyone in Medicine wears athletic shoes and NBs are so comfy during a 12 hour shift but geez could they look better?

According to everyone around me yes. I have one pair a friend calls my Peter Pan shoes. Right now I'm really into my Nikes I have been wearing them with everything (mind you I pretty much only wear jeans) even with sweaters and jeans to work. But I think they are pretty cool. They are brown and blue.

hehe, actually no.
if ind converses extremely comfortable and i liek them alot.
high heels though can be really nice but very uncomfortable.
i do have some flats which are comfy and one of my favourites. x
